Eldar Asurmen

The next in line here in my macro re-shoots is my Asurmen.  This one is a bit different from the others.  I put in some extra work to raise the models painting standard a bit and bring it inline with some of the more recent Eldar models I've painted.

Eldar Warp Spider Squad

Finally finished up my Warp Spider squad.  I really like the scheme for two reasons.  I like how it looks on it's own and is rather different than my other Aspect squads and my Craftworld forces.

Up next is a tough call right now.  There are no units that I need to paint to field an army that I like.  I still have my titan than I haven't touched in forever.  That is more of a work on when I have time and motivation, unfortunately, motivation has been lacking lately.  With rumblings of new Dark Eldar on the horizon, maybe i'll revisit Commorragh and paint some more evil kin.

Eldar Warp Spider Exarch

Here is the finished Exarch for my Warp Spider squad.  He is of the same scheme and style as the regular Spider I posted last week.  Why no other Exarch model beyond this one was never commissioned, I haven't a clue.  How a Dark Reaper Exarch with a Web of Skulls released and no love for the Warp Spiders, shows the universe to be a cruel place. To be honest though, of his contemporaries of the time this one was one of the coolest.  Unfortunately, every aspect has received at least one update, whereas the Spiders are still in the same place.

My favorite part of this paint job is the powerblades.  A rather poor equipment choice notwithstanding, they at least look cool.

The next goal is to put some work on the rest of the squad, 6 more Spiders.  After that though, I am not sure where to go next.  My Eldar stockpile is running low at the moment.  The stockpile is still rather large, just not in comparison to what has been painted.

Eldar Warp Spider

The Eldar Warp Spider model has confounded me for years.  Even way back in 2nd Edition I hated these models even though the unit was great, they use to use flame templates and used initiative to attack the effected models.  I got a bit of a reprieve through various editions because Warp Spiders just plain sucked.  Now though, Warp Spiders are arguably the best selection from Fast Attack for Eldar.  With that, I have been trying to get these guys not looking like ass.  This is my 4th officially finished Warp Spider paint scheme.  I think I have finally found something I like.  It is very similar to my Dark Reapers, but I don't see myself running those guys anytime soon.

The two primary colors at work here are black and purple.  The under suit is a white prime with several washes of purple.  Those washes were followed up with highlights.  The black is Abaddon Black over a white prime with Xereus Purple lining on the edges.  The wraithbone is Ushabti Bone washed with Devlan Mud with original color in highlights.  The hardest call color wise was the buttons at the white pennants on the legs and forearms.  I ended up going with the base color used for the cloth.

I have a second one started and another 5, including an Exarch, getting ready to be primed.  When I finish this squad I'll have a unit of all aspects sans Shining Spears.

Eldar Shadow Spectre Exarch

I got this Exarch and a 5 man squad awhile ago, but just now finishing up the Exarch.  Really, the biggest hurdle was dealing with the model itself to prepare it for painting.  Working with resin has it's upsides and downsides.  Now that the model is finished it's really nice.  Especially when you consider that this model would be almost unusable if it were done in metal.  You really have to keep that in mind when dealing with the warping and flash removal.  I also chose not to add all the extra streamers to this model.  I honestly just do not like them.  I might add some here and there for the standard squadies, but that's further down the road seeing as I have zero plans on every actually running these in a game.

I kinda feel that the wraithbone overshadows the paint job, but I also feel the contrast between it and the white/blue armor is nice.  The cloth hanging down I feel came out real well and provides another color contrast.

Work Table Wednesday

Got these guys in the mail today.  Fairly straightforward assembly so far.  Cleaning all the flash is really the hardest part.

I am around 98% finished with my Wraithknight at this point.  One really good session and he's ready for the camera.

My Titan is really lagging behind at this point though.  I really just need to bite the bullet and make a base for it.  I feel things will go faster once that happens.  At this stage though he only has one leg attached.

Alaitoc Army Update

I have not posted much, none actually, this month.  There is a reason for this.  I haven't really been painting that much, let alone finishing much.  I did manage to finish up my third out of four Wave Serpents.  I got in the mail some more Warp Spiders, but I hate the model so much I am having trouble working on them.  I have 9 total now, but I can't seem to find a scheme that doesn't make them look like crap.  Some models are so old and bad paint alone cannot salvage them.  It's a shame really.  The unit is so good.

The pics are of my display cases.  It helps put the entire army in perspective as to what's done.  

On the table I have the aforementioned Warp Spiders, Storm Guardians, Guardian Crewmen, and Rangers.  I honestly cannot get excited about any of them.  That titan needs to show up soon. 

Eldar Warp Spider

This is a bit of a test model for my Warp Spiders.  When I tackle a new type of Aspect Warrior I do a basic trooper first followed by the Exarch then batch paint the rest of the squad.

I had the edit this on my laptop so it is not as well produced as I prefer, but I've just been lazy in getting a new HD for my desktop.  As for the color scheme I tried to stay as close to the standard colors as possible.  That means predominately red and black with some green thrown in.  At first just the tassels were green, but then I added some green lining between the red and black color changes and that seems to added a bit of flair without looking out of place.  Unfortunately, I only have 4 Spiders total, including the Exarch, so this unit will be short until I get some more Warp Spiders.  I am kinda holding out to see if any new models come out with the next Eldar wave.  They are some of the oldest models still in use for the Eldar. 

Eldar Alaitoc Crimson Hunter

I didn't really speed through this model, it took me 5 or so sittings, but it is finished nevertheless.  Not until I was almost finished did I really think about the fact that Crimson Hunters are really Aspect Warriors, thus have their own paint scheme and colors.  Interestingly enough, Games Workshop seems to have the same path as I and painted them craftworld specific.  

As with all of my  Alaitoc themed models this model was done in the standard mottled blue with yellow stripes style.  The armor effect is accomplished with a white basecoat.  From there, I do several coats of Altdorf Guard Blue.  That basecoat is then washed fairly heavily with Drakenhof Nightshade.  This does not have to be super well because of the mottling blends well with it if you leave it blotchy.  Once the wash is done I fill the lines in with black and then stipple black onto the blue and then smear it a bit with my finger to help blend it in.  I then highlight the edges of the black lines with Thunderhawk Blue and then finish with a glaze of Guilliman Blue.  

Up next are some jetbikes and a second Wave Serpent that I have had base coated for 2 weeks now.  

Eldar Dire Avenger Exarch

I decided to paint up an Exarch for my two 10 man Dire Avenger squads.  It's a fairly straightforward scheme that is rather quick to throw together.  When I'll get around to finishing the, or even starting, the other 19 models I haven't a clue.  

The real challenge for my Dire Avengers was trying to get a clear difference between them and my Guardians.  I think I achieved enough of a difference with the greater amount of wraithbone and the red.  The red is an older style of Dire Avengers paint scheme.  For some reason they decided to go a more black and yellow accent to the blue.

Eldar Striking Scorpion Squad

I finished these guys last night and just had to wait til the bases were dry to drybrush them.  I went for a very traditional scheme for these guys.  I don't think I have ever run a squad of these guys in all my years playing Eldar.  I got the models cheap off ebay and I'm hopeful that aspect warriors will have a better role in the upcoming new codex.

Eldar Swooping Hawk Squad

I finished my Swooping Hawk squad last night.  The initial plan for these guys was to do one a day.  Well I ended up with a few extra hours last night so I finished the last hawk a day early.  I even did the basing for this squad.  

The painting method used on these guys was a Lotheran Blue base, a black wash on top of that, followed by reapplying Lotheran Blue on the raised areas, a white edge highlight and blacklining in the recesses.  The Wriathbone is Ushabti Bone base with Devlan Mud wash and a edge highlight of Ushabti.  

Eldar Swooping Hawk

I have to be honest, this may be my favorite scheme so far for my Aspect Warriors.  Unfortunately, the last time I can remember when I used Swooping Hawk extensively was in the halcyon 2nd edition days when they were super mobile and dropped grenades like champs.  

As to the paint scheme, it uses several techniques and color combos I like to keep consistent with all my Eldar.  Those techniques are the wraithbone and hoses.  I really like how the blue, black and white really pop individually, but still mesh together.

I'm excited to start work on the Exarch tomorrow.  Seeing as this guy didn't take that long, I should finish the exarch and start on another of the squad.

Eldar Dark Reaper Squad

I finally finished the Dark Reaper squad.  I have 4 more Reapers I need to finish that will utilize Maugen Ra as their Exarch.  Hopefully some of the rumors about the new Eldar Codex are true and Phoenix Lords get new models.

Eldar Dark Reaper

I've taken another break from my Necrons to work on some Eldar.  I was batch painting 4 Dark Reapers to go with the Exarch I finished awhile back.  I decided I wanted one finished as a benchmark for the other three.  I find I go a bit extra in effort if I work on one, then force myself to do the same level on the rest of the batch.  I just hope these guys are a bit cheaper and better in the new Codex sometime this year.

Eldar Dark Reaper Exarch

I found myself playing a lot of Dark Repaers the last half dozen games of 40k as part of an infantry heavy Footdar list.  I have 2 full squads painted, but this is an update the scheme.

Eldar Striking Scorpion Exarch

Finished the Exarch today.  I went a different direction with the armor with green highlighting.  I like it a lot better than the yellow style.

Eldar Howling Banshee Squad

I finally finished the entire squad tonight.  I even started their bases as well.  I just wish my Scorpions would come out like these ladies did.
